Admitting she sees the fivesome - Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan - like brothers, she fully backed the boyband to have a 'long and successful career'.

'I look at them as brothers and its so good to see them progressing in such a quick amount of time,' Cher said of One Direction. 'I havent seen them in a long time but when I go out there all my fans are always raving about them, its great.'

Cher, who shot to fame in the 2010 series of The X Factor, also moved to hit out at British singers who go across the pond and slate fellow Brits.

She continued: 'Were on the same label in the UK and I think the UK artists should stick together.

'Theres been a few incidents where sometimes you dont feel as if youve got a connection with a certain someone and then they go to America and they say something nasty about you. You think youre from the UK, why have you done that?

'The one thing I can say about One Direction is I feel like theyre going to have a very long and successful career,' Cher added.

Lloyd, who announced her engagement to hairdresser ! Craig Mo nk earlier this year, has also been trying to crack the US herself and last month secured 1million sales on her debut US single Want U Back.

The hard-working 19 year-old admitted she's also glad her American fans don't have a pre-conceived perception of her so she knows they like her for what she is.

'Its one of those moments where you stand back and you think, its been two years and this is kicking off for me. I just feel so grateful that America have kind of bought in to me.

'They didnt know anything about me, thats the good thing, they dont have any perception of me already.

'Im a new artist, I work very hard at what I do and theyre taking me from face value and I respect that,' she added.

But cracking the US is clearly not enough for the pint-sized pop star as, following her debut perfume launch yesterday, she now wants to sell her own range of lipsticks.

'Id like to go further and experiment with lipsticks,' Lloyd added to Sugarscape. 'I have a love for lipsticks, maybe thatll be the next thing I bring out.'
